Who are We?
Since 2012, the Ion Beam Centre at the University of Surrey has been analysing and researching lead samples from Jordan and elsewhere in the Middle East to demonstrate their antiquity scientifically.
On the 22nd of November 2018, the Numen Society was launched at the Rik Medlik Building at the University of Surrey. The Numen Society is affiliated with the Nodus Laboratory Ion Beam Centre and comprises a community of scientists, scholars, influential individuals and supporters whose common objective is to campaign for the protection of the codices and to scientifically test, research and archive as many as we can.
We intend to raise support for the codices and to make our findings public.
OUR MISSION
Our Mission is to raise funds to enable us to test and accrue further scientific data that will provide unique insight into these historically, culturally, and theologically significant artefacts.
Ultimately, we aim to historically situate the codices, giving confidence and context to the scholars and translators currently researching and interpreting the inscription and iconography on the codices.
OUR VISION
The Numen Society is regularly contacted by private individuals from around the world offering codices and other related relics discovered in various countries in the Middle East for analysis. Some of these have already been tested with exciting results.
It is our aim to continue scientific analysis and historical research in order to learn more about these remarkable artefacts. However, scientific testing is expensive, and we need help to fund it.
Our vision is to test as many codices as possible to gain more knowledge about this little-known period of history, which we anticipate will have a significant positive impact on human relations.
We wish to collaborate with scholars, scientists, faith leaders, and institutions from around the world, and we hope to offer a distinctive cultural and historical perspective that can be meaningfully integrated into society.
